So last week, Google announced changes in the way they evaluate links. This update is important to you if you have your own website and get a good amount of traffic from Google. How does this affect your website rankings and how exactly does Google evaluate links? Lets discuss..

Changes in text links

Since Google doesn’t specifically state what they change each time they do updates, we can only speculate what might change in the future from their broad updates. So lets discuss text links, which are important to generate traffic from other sites and to let search engines know what to rank your site for.

For example, you have a link such as test internet bandwidth. This link goes to a specific page, but also tells search engine robots the subject of that page and that it should add your page as a relevant result when a visitor is searching for such topic. When bloggers and businesses found out about this significance of titling the text links, they went crazy. Spam was thrown in every direction with blog sites getting garbage comments just for a little bit of link juice.

This definitely upset Google because useless sites started ranking high, and important sites started ranking low. The tip to take away from this is to continue honest link building, and only post comments on relevant sites where you can actually provide useful content.

The power of links

You should already know that there is a difference in having your link placed on the homepage of a site with a hundred links and one with only a few links. Having your link on a site with fewer links means more link juice being passed to your site. Google is not giving out details on this topic, but has noted that there will be changes in the future.

And finally there is the change in Google backlinks evaluation, which we noted in our previous post. Google stated that they are removing a feature from their backlink evaluation which they used for many years. We can only guess what this feature is for now, until Google reveals what exactly it is (unlikely), or we have enough time to test our what will work and what won’t work for future backlinking efforts.

What to take away from this article: You should continue your backlinking efforts for your sites in an honest way, don’t link spam and stuff links over thousands of blogs, it just wont work. Also, you’re now informed that Google is changing its ways of link evaluation and should stay alert for future updates.

On February 27th, Google announced yet another set of changes in their ranking algorithm. The most important changes were another Panda update (labeled Panda 3.3 update) and changes in the way Google evaluates links. In total there are 40 separate changes made in the algorithm.

The general Panda update was made to refresh their ranking system, as told by Google team.

“Panda update. This launch refreshes data in the Panda system, making it more accurate and more sensitive to recent changes on the web.”

Most important concern for the Keolohosting team, and many other established sites out there, is the changes in backlinks evaluation. It’s just not that clear what they changed, im sure they want it that way! Take a look at what they had to say:

“Link evaluation. We often use characteristics of links to help us figure out the topic of a linked page. We have changed the way in which we evaluate links; in particular, we are turning off a method of link analysis that we used for several years. We often re-architect or turn off parts of our scoring in order to keep our system maintainable, clean and understandable.”

Apart from the backlinking changes, there are some cool new features I noticed in Google Adwords, specifically when you are doing keyword research. You can now do a quick Google Search or search further into LSI keywords that show up when you’re searching for a specific set of keywords.

Lets say you’re searching for “red tennis shoes”, and you get ideas for tons more tennis shoes keywords. You can now do a quick search for the listed LSI keywords and/or target further into specific LSI keywords to see what related terms they can get. Pretty cool huh?

WordPress vs Drupal vs Joomla – which is really the king of open source CMS?

But which one is the best?

It really depends on the kind of website if you want, and your plans are unique from others, the best thing to do is visit all 3 websites (below) and see which one is right for you.

Instead of listing the features of each CMS, we will list the questions you should keep in mind when choosing one of these site building applications, and you will surely find the right one for you.

1. Installation – WordPress is available for 1-click installation at Keolo Hosting, however Drupal and Joomla are not. Keep this in mind when making your decision, incase you are not able to install the platform yourself. Also, when comparing Drupal and Joomla for installation purpose, Drupal requires a more experienced user to install than Joomla.
